Perseverance story: Woman's story in Mocha struggled to keep her children out of poverty

Salma Ahmed is a success story of a woman, who paved her way to struggle so as to feed her family members. 

Salma Ahmed,a  70-year-old woman, is from Mocha district, she is in her 70s, when she got married to a husband before about five decades ago, she worked hard to keep her family out of poverty. 

her relation with a destitute and disable husband was not a reason to regret for such a marriage, she found a way to stay free and provide food to her family by selling eggs, potatoes, ...These things, though they are small but they are great, and means in its meaning to keep family out of poverty. 

When her children grew up, they helped her to expand sales range in the morning and evening in public markets and in front of school yards."

Salma said " I started sending them in the morning to school for sale, and in the evening in all neighborhoods, which changed our lives radically".

Over time, Salma worked in selling women's clothing and children's clothing as a street vendor, which allowed her to earn a lot of money, enabling her to move from al-Shadheli neighborhood to al-Hali neighborhood, and build a large house that housed a grocery that contained various food items.

"It was a unique experience and we started to get rid of the poverty that was in our early years of marriage," says Salma. "My husband was in bed because of his age and he had a lot of diseases, so I was worried about our condition," she says. "But thank God, لBecause our will was also strong".

"Ahmed al-Hammadi, a merchant, had a great role in supplying our grocery, our shop, by many food items after we lose our money in building our house".    

When a son of Salma grew up, he got married then he opened a small shop to complete what his mother had started. 

Salma's story is a story of struggle for her family to live the life she and her family deserve. It is also a tale that proves that small business is the key to good and a way to escape poverty.
