The failure of the military solution... a lie that saved Iran's arm in Yemen

Aden, NewsYemen, exclusive:

between Riyadh, Aden and Muscat;  The UN envoy, Hans Grundberg, has moved between these cities over the past few days.  In a scene that reflects the volume of international and regional efforts and movements to extend the UN armistice, which the Houthi group has refused to extend since the beginning of last October.

Extending the truce is not the only goal of these moves, but rather it is a prelude to "starting an inclusive political process owned by the Yemenis under the auspices of the United Nations to end the conflict in a sustainable manner," according to a statement issued by the UN envoy's office after the conclusion of his visit to Muscat on Thursday evening.

Movements, meetings and diplomatic noise that Yemen has been experiencing for about 10 months under the banner of peace and ending the war once and for all 8 years after its outbreak, with an emphasis on the UN armistice that was announced in early April for a period of two months and was later extended twice, is only a prelude to it.

The "noise" of peace continued during the past months and escalated in the past weeks, despite the continued intransigence of the Houthi group to accept the extension of the truce and its previous refusal to implement any obligations it had within the terms of the truce, in contrast to the position of the coalition and the Presidential Council, which represented the only reason for the steadfastness of the truce.

The adherence shown by the leadership of the coalition and the leadership of the Presidential Council to the truce coincides with its repeated rhetoric during the last period, emphasizing adherence to the peace option despite the intransigent behavior of the Houthi group, and contenting itself with begging the international community to put pressure on the group, which represents one of Iran's arms in the Arab region.

The peace approach adopted by the leadership of the coalition and the presidential administration in the face of the Houthi militia, emerged as a natural approach after announcing the "failure of the military option" within the texts of the outputs of the Riyadh conference that was held between the political components and the forces on the ground.  In light of this, the transfer of power from President Hadi to the Presidential Leadership Council was announced

The announcement of the "failure of the military option" at the Riyadh conference represented an explicit declaration of acceptance of the option of a political settlement with the Houthi group and acceptance of making concessions for that as the only option, which was embodied in the terms of the armistice.  This explains the intransigence and arrogance practiced today by the Houthi group to accept its extension in order to obtain more concessions.

Returning to the course of the war since its outbreak in March 2015, the verdict of "failure of the military option" against the Houthi group is an inaccurate description. During the first year of the war, the Houthi group lost more than two-thirds of the country's territory, and the legitimate forces arrived in February of 2016.  To the outskirts of Sana'a with the fall of the hypothesis of Nehm.

The Houthi group continued to bleed militarily and its defeats on the ground continued, and the scene reached its climax with the encirclement of its elements inside the city of Hodeidah in mid-2018 , and it is close to losing its only artery to the world, before it obtained a lifeline with the signing of the Sweden agreement at the end of the year.

Despite the halting of the battle of Hodeidah, the group did not succeed in regaining control militarily and did not achieve any significant progress on the ground, so the scene turned with the beginning of 2020  with the suspicious fall of the Nehm front, which represented the beginning of a series of suspicious withdrawals that enabled the Houthi group to control the fronts.  and entire provinces.

Defeats returned the scene in the north to the starting point of the war in 2015 AD after the Houthi militia returned to the outskirts of the city of Marib, which suggested the failure of the military option to confront the Houthi, and with time it turned into conviction and then official recognition by the Houthi opponents, and submitting to the peace option with the group became justified.

While the truth from the course of the war in Yemen confirms that the failure was the tools of the military option in the north, represented by the Brotherhood, which took over the military file by appointing General Ali Mohsen as Hadi’s deputy in April 2016, and it was not a failure of the option itself, as evidenced by its success in the south and north before that and at a standard time
